Police in Edinburgh have released images of a man they wish to trace in connection with a serious assault in Edinburgh's Cowgate on Easter Monday.

The incident happened at about 03:15 on 21 April when a 26-year-old man was assaulted and received serious injuries.

Detectives want to speak to the man pictured in CCTV footage.

He is tall, white, of heavy build, with medium-length blond to brown hair with shaved sides.

He was wearing a checked grey/light blue and white short-sleeved shirt with dark bottoms. Anyone who recognises the man is asked to contact police.

Det Con Christopher Harding, of Police Scotland, said: "The victim suffered a painful facial injury as well as a fractured collar bone, during an unprovoked attack whilst on a night out with friends.

"The man pictured is believed to be of significance to our investigation and anyone who can assist in tracing him is asked to come forward.

"Similarly we would ask this male to get in touch with police himself and help with our investigation."
