Man seriously hurt in M8 crash at Whitburn

A 30-year-old man has been seriously injured after his car left the M8 in West Lothian and struck a tree.

The man was cut free from the wreckage of his Honda before being taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

The incident occurred on the M8 westbound, just after junction 4, at about 12:30. The man was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

Both motorway lanes were closed for a short time while road traffic police carried out an investigation.

Police are appealing for witnesses.
