Edinburgh man impaled on metal railings

An Edinburgh contractor has been injured after falling from a building and impaling himself on metal railings.

Emergency services were called out to Craigleith Road shortly after 15:00.

Firefighters used cutting equipment to free the 29-year-old man and he was taken by ambulance to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

Police Scotland said their enquiries are ongoing and they were liaising with the Health and Safety Executive.

The man was being treated for an injured leg.
