Five men arrested for sex offences in Edinburgh

Five men have been arrested over a range of separate sexual offences as part of an ongoing police crackdown.

Operation Wolf was launched in Edinburgh last year to tackle domestic abuse and sex crimes. The arrests were made on Thursday.

Two men, aged 56 and 53, from Wester Hailes, were charged over historic serious sexual assaults, crimes against children and domestic assaults.

A 59-year-old man was also charged in connection with an indecent exposure.

All three were due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Friday.

Elsewhere, a 66-year-old man was charged with sexual assault and indecent assault, and a 28-year-old man was charged with assaulting a child.

Both men are due to appear in court at a later date.

Det Ch Insp Alwyn Bell, of Police Scotland, said: "We are committed to protecting the public from harm and whenever we receive reports of crimes such as domestic abuse and sexual assault we will carry out a robust investigation to bring those responsible to justice.

"Thursday's Operation Wolf activity should send a very clear message that no matter how old the offence, we can and will pursue offenders and remove them from our communities.

"I would like to reassure the public that all reports of domestic abuse or sexual crime are taken extremely seriously and acted upon appropriately."
