An 11-year-old boy has been offered an unknown substance from teenagers who claimed it was a sweet.

Police in Midlothian are appealing for witnesses following the incident in Kings Park, Bonnyrigg, at about 18:00 on Saturday.

Two unknown male teenagers offered the boy the item, which was white with a smiley face and was in a wrapper.

The 18-year-olds were both wearing dark clothing.

Insp Bryan Burns, of Police Scotland, said: "We're appealing to all children and young people to be aware of the dangers of accepting anything of this nature from people you don't know, and to contact police, a parent or guardian as soon as possible if you are ever approached in a similar manner.

"We're also appealing for any witnesses who can help us with our inquiries to come forward."
