Shopper 'violently' attacked near shopping centre in Leith
A shopper has been "violently" attacked by two men in Edinburgh leaving him with serious face, head and body injuries.
The 50-year-old man was walking towards the Newkirkgate Shopping Centre at about 18:50 on Friday when he was attacked.
Police said there were a number of witnesses in the area and are appealing for them to come forward.
The man was treated at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
The first attacker is a white man of slim build. He was wearing dark coloured clothing with the hood raised or potentially wearing a hat. He was also wearing dark coloured footwear.
The second attacker is also a white man with a slim build. He was also wearing dark coloured clothing with the hood raised or a hat. He was also wearing white trainers.
Det Sgt Mark Lumsden of Police Scotland said: "This was a violent and vicious attack which resulted in the 50-year-old victim requiring hospital treatment.
"We believe there were a number of witnesses to this attack and we are eager to speak to anyone who may have information.
"Anyone who can assist with our inquiries is asked to contact us at their earliest convenience."
