Police investigate rape of man on Edinburgh cycle path

Police are investigating reports of a man being raped on a cycle path in Edinburgh.

It is understood the 36-year-old was attacked in the Pilton area of the capital in the early hours of the morning.

Police Scotland said inquiries were ongoing into the incident.

Meanwhile, a 42-year-old woman was found seriously injured in a common stairwell at nearby West Pilton Avenue at 05:25.

Detective Inspector Mark Lumsden of Edinburgh CID, appealed for witnesses, saying: "If you have seen or heard anything in the area either overnight, or in the early hours of the morning, please get in contact as any information could assist us with our investigation."
