Burst main hits Wishaw water supply

A burst water pipe in Wishaw, North Lanarkshire, has left about 1,700 homes without supplies.

Scottish Water said the 18in main was damaged while work was being carried out in the Craigneuk area.

Engineers have been working through the night but Scottish Water said it may take "some time" to repair the damage.

Bottled water is available at Craigneuk Retail Park. Scottish Water said staff were trying to ensure that Wishaw General Hospital was not affected.

Helen Lennox, head of corporate affairs at Scottish Water, said: "We would like to apologise to our customers in the Craigneuk area who are suffering a loss of their normal supply of water this morning as a result of this burst pipe.

"Everything possible is being done to repair the pipe as quickly as possible but this may take some time."
