Police believe a 20-tonne digger taken from a business premises in Ayrshire may have been stolen to order.
The machinery, which is worth about £110,000, was stolen from Allseasons in Galston at about 2210 BST on Friday.
Police warned businesses that they may be offered the Volvo digger, which has a distinctive Tasmanian devil motif on a door and two mini versions of the motif on the back.
Officers are checking CCTV footage to try to identify those involved.
Sgt Susan Milloy said: "This was quite obviously a pre-planned theft, which must have taken quite some time to carry out given the weight and size of the machinery stolen.
"We believe that the machinery was loaded onto a low loader vehicle and we would appeal to any motorists who were in the area last night just after 2200 hours and noticed any suspicious activity to come forward to police."
