Teenager drowns in loch tragedy

A teenager has drowned in a North Lanarkshire loch while playing on a raft with friends.

The 18-year-old and four other teenagers got into difficulties on Banton Loch near Kilsyth.

Police were alerted at about 1540 BST and an RAF search and rescue helicopter was sent to the scene.

Four of the group were rescued by emergency crews. It is understood the teenager's body was recovered by police divers at 1930 BST.

His identity has yet to be released.
