Man stabbed as he lay in bed at his Airdrie home

A 21-year-old man is being treated in hospital after three men forced their way into his home and stabbed him while he lay in bed.

The man was at his home in Hunter Street, Airdrie, when the attack happened at about 1515 GMT on Saturday.

He is being treated for serious stab wounds to his head and body at Monklands Hospital where his condition has been described as "stable".

A 21-year-old woman and a two-year-old girl were in the house at the time.

They were not injured.

Strathclyde Police are treating the attack as attempted murder and have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.
