Man sought over Glasgow bookmaker robbery

A man is being sought by police following an armed robbery at a bookmakers in the east end of Glasgow.

The suspect, who was armed with what appeared to be a firearm, threatened two members of staff at Coral in Carntyne Road at 1640 GMT on Tuesday.

He then made off with a small amount of cash. No-one was injured in the raid.

Police said the man was described as white, aged in his 30s, about 6ft in height, with a gaunt appearance, a thin build and stubble.

At the time of the robbery he was wearing a dark jacket with the hood up, dark trousers, dark gloves and white trainers.

The jacket also had writing on the right shoulder.

Det Con Amanda Baxter, of Strathclyde Police, said: "Our continued work with licensed bookmakers across the Strathclyde area ensures that staff only have access to a minimal amount of takings and the suspect therefore only made off with a relatively small sum of cash.

"Carntyne Road and the area surrounding would normally have been busy at this time of day and so I would appeal to anyone who was in the area or who has any information about the robbery to contact me as soon as possible."
