Police are investigating an attempted murder after a man was stabbed and another injured in a hospital car park.

The men, aged 24 and 26, were attacked by a group as they walked through the car park of Inverclyde Royal Hospital in Greenock.

The attack happened at about 1930 GMT on Friday.

The 26-year-old suffered stab wounds and was taken to another local hospital for treatment. His condition is described as stable.

The 24-year-old man suffered lacerations and was treated at IRH but later released.

Strathclyde Police are treating the attack on the 26-year-old as attempted murder and the other as serious assault.

A police spokesman said the car park was busy with cars and people making their way to and from the hospital at the time of the attack.

The force is keen to speak to any witnesses to the incident, particularly a group of males aged 15-20 who were seen in the area.

Two of the suspects were described as being 20-21 years and 5ft 7in. One had short, dark hair and was wearing a dark-coloured t-shirt.

The other suspect had dark brown hair and was wearing a tracksuit.
