Elderly man dies in Greenock house blaze

An elderly man has died in a fire at house in Greenock, Inverclyde.

Two appliances from Strathclyde Fire and Rescue were called to the property in the town's Kilbrannan Drive shortly before 1300 BST.

Officers entered the building and removed the elderly man, whose name has not been released. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A joint investigation into the cause of the blaze is being undertaken by the fire service and Strathclyde Police.
