Off-duty police officer knocked off bike by lorry

An off-duty officer with Strathclyde Police is being treated in hospital after he was knocked off his bike by a lorry in South Ayrshire.

The incident happened in the early hours of Monday morning on the northbound A78, close to the B746 turn-off for Dundonald.

The 32-year-old was taken by ambulance to Ayr Hospital where he is in a "serious but stable" condition.

The driver of the lorry was uninjured. Police have appealed for witnesses.
