Man stabbed in 'senseless' attack in Airdrie

A man was stabbed in a "senseless" daytime attack in a street in Airdrie, police have said.

The 21-year-old was seriously assaulted by a man as he walked down Southbridge Street at about 1440 BST on Friday.

He was taken to Monklands District General Hospital where he was treated for his injuries and later released.

Det Con Linda Bain, from Airdrie Police Office, said: "This was a completely senseless and motiveless assault on this young man."

She added that officers were currently checking CCTV and appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

The suspect is described as white, Scottish, aged in his 20s and approximately 5ft 11in tall with a slim build and short black hair.

He was last seen getting into a Vauxhall Astra car which drove off towards North Bridge Street in the town.
