Hundreds lose power to homes in Newton Mearns

Hundreds of people have spent a day without electricity after a cable was damaged.

Scottish Power said between 100 and 200 properties in Newton Mearns, East Renfrewshire, were cut off from their supply at about 10:00 on Tuesday.

Despite heavy rainfall across the west of Scotland, the company said the damage was not weather related.

A spokeswoman said the homes affected were in the area around Broomcroft Road.

She added: "We apologise to customers affected by the cut and we expect to have the issue resolved by midnight or 1am."

Engineers remain on-site to repair the cable.
