Woman dies in Kilmarnock car park incident

A woman died and a man was seriously injured after being struck by a car as they crossed a garden centre car park in Ayrshire.

The 63-year-old woman and 63-year-old man were hit by a Citroen C3 at MGM Garden Centre in Ayr Road, Kilmarnock.

The woman died at the scene of the incident, which occurred at about 14:25 on Saturday.

The man was transferred to the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow for treatment to a head injury.

His condition was described as "serious but stable".

The 51-year-old female driver of the car was uninjured.

Police inquiries into the incident are continuing and a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.

Meanwhile in another incident, police said an 83-year-old woman died after being struck by a car in North Lanarkshire on Saturday evening.

The victim was crossing Kirk Road in Wishaw when she was hit by a Daewoo Matiz at about 17:05.

Strathclyde Police said the 80-year-old female driver of the Matiz was uninjured but was left very shaken by the incident.
