Patrick McIlvanney jailed for gouging police officer's eye

A man who admitted attacking police and trying to gouge an officer's eye out has been jailed for 15 months.

Patrick McIlvanney, from Kilmarnock, was arrested on 6 May after throwing a bottle through a house window in the town and injuring a woman inside.

Kilmarnock Sheriff Court heard the 27-year-old later attacked a female police officer called to the scene before gouging a male colleague's eye socket.

The court heard that McIlvanney has more than 30 previous convictions.

He admitted breach of the peace, culpable and reckless conduct, resisting arrest, police assault and cannabis possession near his home on 6 May.

Sheriff Joan Kerr said: "I view this as a very serious assault on a police officer."
