Woman beaten in 'vicious' attack in central Glasgow

An investigation is under way after a 20-year-old woman was beaten in a "vicious" attack in central Glasgow.

The woman was assaulted by a man near to Morrisons Supermarket in Gallowgate at about 15:00 on Tuesday.

He then forced the woman to walk to Bell Street, before forcing her into a taxi on Gallowgate.

She then suffered a "prolonged attack" at a house in the Carlton area. The woman is being treated for extensive injuries at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

Det Sgt Ronnie Payne, of Strathclyde Police, said: "This was a vicious attack which occurred during daylight in an area busy with pedestrians and I am keen to speak to a man who was in Bell Street at the time and stopped to offer assistance to the woman.

"I am also keen to speak to anyone else who may have seen them between Morrisons supermarket and the Calton area, or who has any information that will help us with our enquiries."
