Detectives investigating the attempted murder of a shopkeeper in Paisley have appealed for witnesses.

A 48-year-old man remains in a critical condition after being stabbed by a male attacker in the Sunshine Grocers on Green Road on Friday afternoon.

Police said forensic investigations, door-to-door inquiries and examinations of CCTV footage were continuing.

Officers also want to speak to anyone who was in the area around the time of the attack at about 17:00.

Det Ch Insp Duncan Sloan said: "Sunshine Grocers is a popular shop in the local community, so it is possible that someone may have either seen or heard the assault taking place.

"I am particularly interested in speaking to a female, described as in her late teens with dark hair wearing an apron, carrying Aldi carrier bags, who was observed walking from the cycle track on Fulbar Road towards Green Road, Paisley, around the time of the attack.

"She may have seen something that could be relevant to our investigation."

There is no description available of the suspect but police said it was possible he may have had bloodstains on his clothing.
