A second man has been arrested over an attack on an elderly woman in her Lanarkshire home.

Mary Coulter, 76, was found with two broken arms and serious head and facial injuries at her home in Overtown near Wishaw in March.

The 32-year-old man is expected to appear in court on Monday in connection with the incident.

On Tuesday, Darryl Finnie, 27, from Carluke, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court charged with attempted murder.

Mrs Coulter is the mother and grandmother of two men cleared of the murder of Asian waiter, Surjit Singh Chhokar, in 1998.

At a press conference in March, Mrs Coulter's daughter Helen Coulter described her mother as a "defenceless elderly woman" who never hurt anyone.
