Police officer denies racial assault charge on neighbour

A police officer has appeared in court charged with a racial attack against her neighbour in North Ayrshire.

DC Lesley Strachan is accused of pushing 43-year-old Kathleen Reid before punching and slapping her on the head in Ardrossan on 15 July.

The alleged attack is said to have been aggravated by racial prejudice.

Ms Strachan denied the charge and was freed on bail at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court. The 40-year-old faces trial at a later date.

A spokeswoman for Strathclyde Police said: "A 40-year-old police officer appeared in court in relation to an alleged assault on a 43-year-old woman in Ardrossan.

"The officer is not currently suspended from duty and a report will be sent to the deputy chief constable for consideration."
