Fire vandals in Hamilton cost firm more than £250,000

A spate of deliberate fires at a building site in South Lanarkshire has cost a private firm more than £250,000, police have said.

Three incidents of wilful fire-raising were reported from 9 to 15 July at the site in St Giles Way, Hamilton.

The most recent happened at about 02:45 on Sunday. The site was also targeted between 16:30 on 9 July and 07:30 on 10 July, and about 06:15 on 11 July.

Police have appealed for information to help catch those responsible.

Det Con Scott Boyle, of Strathclyde Police, said: "This is an unacceptable act of mindless vandalism which has caused a huge amount of loss to this private company.

"In addition to the damage, the area near to the site is densely populated and may well have put other resident's safety at risk.

"It is imperative that we trace who is responsible for these mindless acts, before someone is seriously hurt."
