Courier targeted in Uddingston van robbery

Police are hunting two men after a parcel delivery van was stolen near Uddingston in South Lanarkshire.

The driver had parked outside Oscar's chip shop, off Old Edinburgh Road, Tannochside, when a man dragged him out of the van at about 08:50 on Thursday.

The man got into the white Mercedes Sprinter van and it was driven off at speed along Old Edinburgh Road before being ditched in Maryville Lane.

The driver was not injured. Police have appealed for witnesses.

The parcels in the delivery van were stolen and are believed to have been transferred into another vehicle.

The Mercedes is currently being examined by forensic officers.

The suspect who pulled the driver from the van is described as being aged between 30 to 40.

Other vehicle

He had a local accent and was wearing a yellow fluorescent jacket with a black hood.

There is no detail on the second suspect other than he was wearing a fluorescent jacket.

Officers are carrying out door-to-door enquiries in the area.

Det Con Paul Brown, of Strathclyde Police, said: "We know that the men stole the parcels from the van, this means they would have had to transfer them into another vehicle.

"We want to trace these men and locate the parcels so that they can be returned to their rightful owners.

"I'm appealing to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious or noticed the white Mercedes van or any other vehicle in that area at the time being driven particularly fast to get in touch with us."
