Rangers fan dies after falling ill at match at Ibrox

A Rangers supporter died after falling ill while watching his team at Ibrox on Saturday.

The man, who was in his 50s, was taken from the stadium to the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow at about 15:30 but later died.

Police said there were no suspicious circumstances.

Rangers defeated Berwick Rangers 4-2 in front of almost 45,000 fans. Fans and players have posted tributes and messages on social networking sites.

Rangers goal scorer David Templeton tweeted: "So sad to hear about the fan who passed away at the game. Thoughts go out to the family and friends."

A spokesman for Strathclyde Police said: "Around 3.30pm a man aged in his 50s took unwell while attending a match at Ibrox stadium in Glasgow. He was taken by ambulance to the Southern General hospital but died a short time later.

"A post-mortem examination will take place in due course to establish the exact cause of death, however there are no suspicious circumstances."
