Tunnel problem hits services on Glasgow's Subway system

The inner circle of the Glasgow Subway has resumed operations as unscheduled engineering works run into a third day.

Maintenance crews have been carrying out repairs to a section of tunnel at Cowcaddens.

Operators Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) said planned work on Monday night uncovered tunnel lining which needed an unexpected repair.

Cowcaddens station has been closed while repairs take place, and remains closed.

A shuttle bus service connects Buchanan Street and St George's Cross, adding up to 30 minutes to some journey times.

Extra services linking Buchanan St with Hillhead, and Buchanan St with Shields Road, will run from about 07:00 on Thursday. SPT said staff would be on hand to help at stations.

BBC Scotland understands that SPT hopes to have the problem resolved within days.
