A fire at a derelict school building in Inverclyde may have been started deliberately, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has said.

Crews were called to the former Balrossie School, on the outskirts of Kilmacolm, at 05:06 on Monday.

The blaze was quickly brought under control but during the operation part of the roof collapsed.

Building control officials from Inverclyde Council attended to assess the safety of the structure.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said the blaze was suspected to have been started deliberately but this was still to be confirmed.
