Good Samaritan witness sought after Prestwick rape bid

Detectives want to trace a driver who came to the aid of an alleged rape victim in South Ayrshire.

Police Scotland said the woman was attacked in Prestwick in the early hours of Monday 22 July.

She was later helped by a woman driver, who stopped in a small red hatchback car, possibly a Fiat 500cc, on East Road, near Cuthbert's Golf Club.

A 22-year-old man was arrested on 25 July in connection with the incident and later charged with attempted rape.

The man appeared from custody at Ayr Sheriff Court on 26 July.
