'Encouraging response' to Toryglen gang rape appeal
Police hunting three men who raped a 33-year-old woman in Glasgow have said they have had an "encouraging response" to a media appeal for information.
The victim was forced into a common close in the Toryglen area and subjected to a serious sexual assault at about 03:00 on Saturday.
The three suspects were described as Asian and in their 20s.
Police Scotland said detectives were now examining information to establish if there are any new lines of inquiry.
Det Ch Inspector Sharon MacGregor said: "We have received an encouraging response from the public following the coverage in the media and I would like to extend my thanks to everyone who contacted us.
"Officers are still in the process of gathering CCTV from in and around the area to study the footage to try and obtain more detail about the suspects and the car they were in.
"I would still like to appeal to anyone who may have any information or knowledge about the suspects or the incident to get in touch with us as a matter of urgency, a small piece of information can be significant so please do pass is on."
The victim was walking along Edinbeg Avenue when a man got out of a car and forced her into a close.
The man and two others, who were also thought to be in the car, then raped her.
Following the attack, the men made off and the victim managed to make her way home. Police were contacted the next morning.
The victim did not require hospital treatment, but was left extremely distressed by the incident.
Police have said they want to speak to anyone who saw three Asian men in a light coloured car, possibly white or silver, and which may be a BMW or similar make.
Extra uniform patrols have also been deployed in the area to reassure local people.
