Man attacked and robbed outside bank in central Glasgow

A man has been assaulted and robbed of a four-figure sum of cash outside a bank in central Glasgow.

The 36-year-old victim was attacked while making his way into the Royal Bank of Scotland, in Clifton Place, off Sauchiehall Street, at 14:20 on Monday.

The suspect assaulted him, knocked him to the ground and grabbed a bag containing the cash before running off.

The victim was treated in hospital for head and face injuries. Police have appealed for witnesses.

The suspect is described as as white, with a stocky build and between 6ft and 6ft 4in in height.

Witness appeal

At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a black woolly hat, blue jacket, shorts and trainers and was carrying a rucksack.

Police said officers were checking CCTV images from the car park outside the bank and surrounding area and conducting door-to-door inquiries.

Det Sgt Raymond Hunter said: "We are reviewing CCTV images in order to glean further information but I am appealing to anyone who may have been in the car park or the bank and who may have witnessed the incident to get in touch.

"It's possible the suspect was hanging around outside the bank in the car park and someone may have noticed him.

"If you saw him or have any knowledge or information about him or the crime then please do get in touch with us."
