Nitshill bookmaker robbery bid investigated

Police are appealing for information after two men in white paper suits and black balaclavas tried to rob a bookmakers in Glasgow.

The incident happened at the Ladbrokes on Woodneuk Road in Nitshill at about 21:00 on Wednesday.

One man was in possession of what appeared to be a firearm and demanded money from a staff member.

After being challenged by customers, the two men made off empty handed in a small white car.

It drove north along Woodneuk Road shortly after the incident.

'Frightening experience'

Both men were described as being of medium build and height with local accents.

Det Con Neil Guy, of Pollock Police Office, said: "Thankfully no-one was injured during the attempted robbery.

"However, it was a very frightening experience for the staff and customers at the shop."

"Our inquiries are still at quite an early stage - we are analysing CCTV and conducting interviews."

He appealed to anyone who was in the area of the bookmakers at the time of incident to contact police with any relevant information.
