Knife robber terrifies 81-year-old man in Prestwick home

Police are attempting to trace a knife-wielding robber who put an 81-year-old man through a "terrifying ordeal" at his home in Prestwick, South Ayrshire.

The victim awoke to find the man in the bedroom of his home in Gardiner Street at about 03:00 on Monday.

The man was holding the victim's bank card and said another man would harm him if he did not disclose the PIN.

The suspect eventually left with the card and a sum of cash after the victim said he could not remember the PIN.

The suspect is described as white, about 6ft with a skinny build. He was wearing dark clothing and is said to have spoken with a local accent.

Det Con David Gray, of Police Scotland, said: "This was a terrifying ordeal for an elderly man who has been left extremely shaken.

"He told us that he was in such a state of shock and fear that he genuinely could not remember his pin number when the man demanded it.

"It is of utmost importance that we trace the individuals responsible for this as soon as possible and I would ask anyone who was in the area at this time to consider whether they saw anyone acting suspiciously."
