A nine-year-old girl has been airlifted to hospital after being hit by a car outside a school in Ayrshire.
Police said the child was seriously injured in the incident on Dalry Road, Kilwinning, near Kilwinning Academy.
Emergency services were called about 15:20 on Wednesday, and took the girl to hospital by air ambulance.
She is being treated at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow, where she is described as being in a serious but stable condition.
The road was closed in both directions while police investigated, but reopened about 21:15.
Police corrected earlier reports that the child was eight.
