Power restored after failure hit Western Isles
Electricity has been restored on the Western Isles after a massive power cut affected the entire island chain.
More than 16,000 homes and businesses had been without electricity for several hours on Tuesday morning.
Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) said the failure was linked to a fault with a sub sea cable that delivers power from Skye.
Back-up diesel powered stations on the isles - including one at Battery Point on Lewis - helped to restore power.
SSE workers were believed to have located the source of the fault to a transformer in a remote area of the Waternish peninsula on Skye near where the sub sea goes under the sea across the Minch. It has been repaired.
