Warning over council tax rebate scam

  • Published

Residents in the Highlands have been targeted in a council tax rebate scam, the local authority has said.

People have been asked for their bank details over the phone so money can be paid directly into their account.

Known as a phishing scam, it can instead lead to funds being stolen from bank accounts.

Highland Council said taxpayers would be contacted by letter if a true rebate was due and urged residents not to give out their bank details if cold-called.
