New heart unit for Raigmore approved

NHS Highland's board has approved a proposal for a new £5m cardiac unit at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

The service will be housed in what is currently the site's medical records library.

The project will provide the hospital with an extra theatre as well as laboratory resources to help deal with more than 1,000 patients a year.

NHS Highland said it hoped to have the cardiac unit completed by next summer.
