Highland Council is "awash with ideas and projects" but not the funds to bring them to fruition, a senior councillor has said.

Following the official opening of a new £12m pier on Raasay, John Laing said there was no longer money available for such big schemes.

Like other local authorities, Highland is facing huge cuts in budgets and services.

The new ferry terminal was built for the Raasay to Skye ferry service.

Mr Laing, chairman of Highland Council's transport, environmental and community services committee, said: "We are not short on ideas I can assure you.

"We have 80 councillors who are awash with ideas, projects and schemes - I can think of any amount off the top of my head."

But he added that finding the funding and the will to progress the projects was now harder.
