Released Inverness murderer back in prison

An Inverness man released from prison after serving 10 years of a life sentence for murder is back in jail.

Derek Johnston, 29, has been jailed for six months for an unprovoked attack on another man in June this year.

Johnston was 17 when he was sentenced to life after being found guilty of murdering David Munro, 33.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard the latest attack happened in a flat in the city where his victim was watching football on television with friends.

Johnston was convicted of punching and kicking John Pestana, 48.

A parole hearing has already been set for 2 November to hear whether he will be fit to be released again from Perth Prison.
