SNP MSP suggests breaking up Highland Council

  • Published

An MSP has suggested that Highland Council should be broken up and certain services run by another organisation to save money and spread out quality jobs.

The SNP's Dave Thompson said the local authority could be replaced by three or four smaller district councils.

Each would have responsibility for planning, housing, culture and sport.

He said a separate organisation should run education, transport and the police in the Highlands, Argyll, Moray and the Northern and Western isles.
