Protesters gathered outside Mr Alexander's office in Inverness
A demonstration led by trade unions has been staged outside the Inverness constituency office of Chief Secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander.
Protesters were concerned about the scale of planned public spending cuts.
Ken MacMillan, secretary of Inverness and District Trade Union Council, said people working in the public and private sectors backed the protest.
Mr Alexander is the Liberal Democrat MP for Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey.
The MP was in Westminster for the unveiling of the UK government's spending review.
Shop stewards and Labour MSP Peter Peacock were among the more than 20 people gathered outside Mr Alexander's office on the banks of the River Ness.
