Drumnadrochit hotel warned over breaches

Owners of a hotel near Drumnadrochit have been warned by Trading Standards not to repeat breaches that led to complaints from some guests.

The Highland Council officers said the Polmaily House Hotel failed to provide promised facilities or refunds.

Owner Gary Little said most of the accusations made against the business about two years ago were inaccurate.

He said the remaining 10% of the issues were being resolved and the guests had been offered free accommodation.

Constructive meeting

Trading Standards said breaches to consumer law had included false claims of VisitScotland membership and misleading information on a website.

There had also been failures to provide promised facilities such as a crèche and swimming pool and in refunding guests.

Gordon Robb, Trading Standards manager with Highland Council, said complaints about conduct in the tourism sector were uncommon.

He added: "Where such matters do come to our attention we will always attempt to resolve the issue through the provision of advice and guidance."

Mr Little said the hotel had had a constructive meeting with the council and changes were being made where they were needed.
