Five to contest Tain and Easter Ross by-election

Five candidates will contest a Highland Council ward by-election on Thursday.

The ballot for Tain and Easter Ross followed the death of SNP councillor Alan Torrance.

Mr Torrance was one of three councillors who represented the ward, the other two being Independents Alan Rhind and Richard Durham.

Polling stations will be open across the ward from 0700 BST to 2200 BST. The count will take place on Friday at the Duthac Centre, in Tain.

The five candidates are Antony Gardner (Scottish Liberal Democrats), Michael Herd (Independent), Derek Louden (SNP), Ruairidh Mackenzie (Independent) and Fiona Robertson (Independent).
