Two soldiers rescued from Tower Ridge on Ben Nevis

Two soldiers have been rescued from Ben Nevis after being injured on Tower Ridge.

Police said they received reports of shouts for help on Ben Nevis at about 1315 BST and members of Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team was called out.

The men, who were on an adventure break and are believed to be experienced climbers, were airlifted to hospital by Royal Navy helicopter.

One sustained serious head injuries and the other injured his leg.

The men are both from an English unit, but the Army could not release further details at this stage.

A Northern Constabulary spokesman said one of the men was to be transferred from Belford Hospital in Fort William to the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow for further treatment.

The other was to be moved to Raigmore Hospital, Inverness.
