Body in woods confirmed as missing schoolgirl Moyra As-Chainey

Police have confirmed that a body found in woods is that of missing 16-year-old schoolgirl Moyra As-Chainey.

The Tain Royal Academy pupil was last seen on Wednesday morning. Her disappearance sparked a major land, air and sea search.

Her body was discovered on Friday by mountain rescuers in woods near her home in Edderton, Easter Ross.

More than 50 people, an RAF helicopter and search dogs had been involved in efforts to trace Moyra.

Moyra was in her fifth year at school and was preparing for her SQA exams.

Following the discovery of her body on Friday, rector Donnie MacLeod said: "I am devastated to hear this tragic news.

"On behalf of staff and pupils at our school, I extend our sincere sympathies to Moyra's parents and family at this very sad time."
