Divers have been searching a canal as part of efforts to trace a man who was last seen by his family on 11 April.

Edward Porter, 33, from Inverness, was thought to have been fishing on the River Ness or Caledonian Canal, near the city.

Grampian Police's underwater unit has been brought in to search the canal and the Muirtown Basin.

Northern Constabulary said this was part of its overall efforts to find Mr Porter.

The force said his family has been told that divers had been asked to help the search.

Mr Porter was described as being 5ft 6in, with a stocky build, fair complexion and brown eyes with black short hair.

When he was last seen he was believed to be wearing a leather jacket with Gio Goi written on it and blue jeans.
