Human remains found in the Cairngorm mountains in the Highlands are those of a walker from North Yorkshire who went missing during a trek in January.

Grant Cunliffe, 49, from Skipton, was thought to have reached the Corrour Bothy in the Lairig Ghru before continuing his walk.

Northern Constabulary said his remains were discovered in the Braeriach area about 15:30 on Thursday.

His death was not thought to be suspicious.

Police were assisted at the scene by the Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team and an RAF search and rescue helicopter.

Several mountain rescue teams, search dogs and a helicopter were involved in several days of searches for Mr Cunliffe in January.
