A long-time independent Lochaber councillor has joined the SNP after falling out with leaders of Highland Council's Independent group.

Bill Clark has represented Caol and Mallaig for 10 years.

He said he was unhappy that he was not nominated for positions on council committees. The Independent group denied that he had been "frozen out".

The SNP lead Highland Council's administration with support from the Liberal Democrats and Labour.

Drew Hendry, leader of the council and the SNP group, has welcomed Mr Clark's decision.
