Man acquitted of attempting to murder baby in Tain

A jury has acquitted a man of attempting to murder an 11-week-old baby in Tain, in Easter Ross, in 2010.

Derren MacLennan denied allegations that he seized the child by the body, repeatedly shook her and struck her head against a solid surface.

Following a month long trial at the High Court in Edinburgh, the jury returned a not proven verdict.

Temporary judge John Morris QC told Mr MacLennan, 41, that he was free to leave the dock.
