RMT members at Caledonian MacBranye balloted on strike
The RMT union is balloting Caledonian MacBrayne ferries staff on taking industrial action in a dispute over pensions and workplace rights.
The union said papers would be sent to its members on Wednesday. The ballot will close on 12 September.
The RMT said it would be meeting with Transport Minister Keith Brown for talks on the dispute on 6 September.
The union has also been negotiating on conditions for ferry staff working on Serco's Northern Isles routes.
A CalMac spokesman said: "It is regrettable that the RMT have made the decision to ballot for strike action, however, we are working closely with them and Transport Scotland to ensure we are able to continue to provide essential lifeline services to the rural and remote communities across our network."
